The lumber is purchased by the board foot and then cut into strips of varying lengths. These are drilled to the desired depth and then turned on the lathe. While still on the lathe, they are sanded to the desired wall thickness. Various hardwoods are also used along with Cedar for the flute construction.

Now Marilyn carefully seals one end of the pipes so it is to the flat side of the note. Then the pipes are glued together open end down one at a time in to custom built curved jig.

Next the end pieces are fit and glued to the flute along with the front, back and top of the shoe. Final sanding, fine tuning and varnishing along with almond oil on the flute complete the project.
